How to Apply for Home Ownership
Habitat for Humanity encourages all families who are in need of housing assistance to apply for the Habitat Program. Please be aware that this is a permanent housing program. Homes are purchased with a mortgage note that continues for approximately 20-30 years until the mortgage is paid off.
To become a homeowner, an applicant must meet the following three requirements:
A Need for Affordable Housing — The family must be living in over-crowded or substandard conditions or be paying too much for current rent. The applicant must meet the financial requirements for the local affiliate.
An Ability to Repay the Loan — All Habitat homes are sold to the homeowner at 0% interest and at NO profit. All applicants must have acceptable credit history and sufficient income to repay the loan.
A Willingness to Partner — All homeowners must agree to donate at least 300 hours (hours may vary by local affiliate) of “sweat equity” and to properly maintain the Habitat home.
Applications for Habitat homes may be picked up at your local Habitat for Humanity office. Once the form is completed and returned to the Habitat for Humanity office nearest you, it will be reviewed by the Family Selection Committee.
Habitat for Humanity complies with all Fair Housing practices.
